The Impact of Online Learning on High School Student’s Learning Motivation

Abstract

This study aims to describe the impact of online learning on students’ learning motivation at SMAN 1 Grati and to identify the factors influencing changes in such motivation. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data analysis was conducted using Miles and Huberman’s interactive analysis model. The findings reveal that online learning tends to decrease students’ learning motivation, as reflected in low active participation, the dominance of extrinsic motivation, and weak abilities to defend opinions and work independently. Changes in motivation are influenced by technical constraints, monotonous teaching methods, limited supervision, lack of family support, copying habits, psychological factors, and varying levels of teacher competence in online teaching. These findings highlight the need for a holistic strategy to improve learning motivation, including infrastructure improvements, the development of interactive teaching methods, and the strengthening of student independence.
